Gae Rose Johnson, 86, died Jan. 1, 2010 surrounded by her family at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, Utah. She was born Aug. 3, 1923 in Richville, Morgan County, Utah to Laura Areta Porter and Parley August Rose.
She graduated from Morgan High School and Weber State College and attended the University of Utah. She met her future husband, Venil P. Johnson, while he was serving as a Naval Aviation Cadet during World War II. They corresponded through the U.S. Mail for over 2 ½ years which served as their courtship and were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Oct. 5, 1944. Theirs was an exemplary union which inspired many by the loving way they cared for each other over the next 65 years and now on into Eternity. Her loving husband was ever at her side during her final years of illness. She raised four sons who are all a credit to her and who love her very much.
She served in many positions in the LDS Church throughout her life. With her husband she served three church missions: in the Chicago LDS Temple, the Manila P.I. LDS Temple, and in London, England. Following their missions she served as a devoted temple worker in the Provo LDS Temple and for the past ten years in the Vernal LDS Temple including the first three years it was open as Assistant Matron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Edith, Hazel and Fern. She is survived by her husband, Venil P. Johnson; sons, Perry (Sharon) of Vernal, Darwin (Marcie) of Heber City, Paul (Jacque) of Vernal and Erik (Lori) of Tremonton; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Also a special Indian Placement Son, Paul Loman (Lori) of Page, Arizona."
